Ronnie O’Sullivan to clinch Fans Player of the Year Award – Snooker News
Former three-time World Snooker Champion and proclaimed to be the most naturally talented snooker player, England’s Ronnie O’Sullivan has been nominated for the Fans Player of the Year Award this year.
The Essex Exocet has been chosen on the basis of his performance in the current season. The Wordsley potter is one of the strong contenders to grab the award this time.
As a tradition, the snooker governing body, World Snooker is organising the annual awards night where the fans’ most favourite player will be awarded as Fans Player of the Year Award. The award ceremony will be held at the Dorchester Hotel in London on May
10, 2012.
Last year the award was clinched by the 2011 China Open snooker tournament winner, England’s Judd Trump. This year, he is once again nominated along with the Rocket.
The potters are nominated on the basis of their performance in the respective snooker season. Any player who has clinched any major ranking or an invitational snooker tournament is automatically added to the list of nominations.
O’Sullivan has been nominated on the basis of his tremendous form in the Players Tour Championship (PTC) events, the Premier League Snooker (PLS) and the 2012 German Masters snooker tournament.
Start of the 2011-12 Snooker Season was outstanding for the Rocket as he clinched the very first event of PTC beating compatriot Joe Perry by the whitewash score line of 4-0. His second success was his victory in the fourth event of PLS where he ousted the
former World Snooker Championship runner up, Ali Carter by the score line of 3-1.
The 36-year-old O’Sullivan won the PTC 7 beating the Welsh Dragon Matthew Stevens by a close score line of 4-2. In the PLS 10 final encounter, he was up against his arch rival, the former World Snooker Champion, Shaun Murphy.
The match up seemed a tussling game in the beginning but O’Sullivan turned it into his favour with a stunning game play and nudged Murphy down by the score line of 3-1.
The second half of the 2011-12 Snooker Season was also astounding for the Englishman as he took the 2012 German Masters beating Stephen Maguire by 9-7. However, after that he tumbled down because of the glandular fever and had to pull out of the 2011-12
PTC Grand Finals.
Despite his illness, O’Sullivan performed brilliantly and took some important events. He might take the award this year due to his convincing performance.
