Ronnie O’Sullivan to consult a psychiatrist, whether to play, withdraw or retire – Snooker Update
The three-time world champion, Ronnie O’Sullivan, has threatened to quit before the upcoming 2011 Betfred.com World Snooker Championship, which will be held from 16 April to 3 May, at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield, England.
Ronnie O’Sullivan has recently told the World Snooker over the phone that he is planning retirement and withdrawal from the upcoming World Championship. O’Sullivan has been given a week’s time to rethink on his decision, which if he does not changes he will
have to submit it in black and white.
The Rocket has now set up a meeting with the leading sports psychiatrist, Dr. Steve Peter, in a bid to save his career.
He said that a friend of his told him in China to meet this doctor and he is doing so. He said that he has heard a lot about him and it’s too good to be true if after all these years someone brings it all back for him.
O’Sullivan told the media that reaching over the winning line is not a concern, as he knows if he starts playing his best he can beat the very best players present in the game at the moment.
The former world number one, O’Sullivan, has slipped to the tenth number in the world rankings due to his bad performance and absentees. He has already missed out on 12 events this season and moreover he also has suffered opening round defeats in the last
four tournaments.
O’Sullivan was also given with a warning earlier from the Chairman of Matchroom Sport, Barry Hearn, for his unprofessional attitude towards the game. Hearn earlier told the media that O’Sullivan previously has pulled himself out of the tournaments in the
last hour but this time there is a penalty laid down in the rules.
Hearn said he knows the personal problems of O’Sullivan and therefore personally has advised him to retire. He also added that Ronnie has lost his fighting spirit.
Ronnie O’Sullivan, who is known as the most naturally-gifted player to walk around the table, will face the Welshman, Dominic Dale, in the last-32 of World Championship. Let’s hope Dr. Peter helps him out with his problems.
