Ronnie O’Sullivan wants to continue playing snooker but on his own terms – Snooker news
Former three-time World Snooker Champion, Ronnie O’Sullivan, has made his way to the quarter-final stage of the 2012 Masters snooker event after trouncing China’s Ding Junhui by the score line of 6-4 at the Alexandra Palace in Stock, Essex. The Rocket believes
he still can play snooker but he wants to play it on his own terms now.
The Englishman had a tussling previous season and was at the brink to retire from the sport. He even announced on a couple of occasions that he is going to quit snooker but then he made up his mind to fight his depression and come back into the game. He
started visiting a sports psychiatrist, Dr Steve Peters, to get some mental treatment to re-gain his love for snooker.
The Essex Exocet sprang back brilliantly in the current season and made a superb start winning two Players Tour Championship (PTC) events to become one of the players to win two PTCs in the same season. He also clinched a couple of Premier League Snooker
events during his season campaign.
Although the Magician could not win any major tournament, but his performance throughout the first half of the season was second to none. Now, the former UK Championship winner aims to clinch the 2012 Masters event. He reckons that his love for the game
of snooker is not lost yet and he wants to play snooker but on his own terms.
Speaking to the media after his first-round match up, O’Sullivan said, “I still want to play snooker, but it has to be on my terms. It can be really lonely staying in a hotel away from your kids, so if I have to qualify for tournaments then that's what I'll
have to do.”
The Wordsley potter added, “I was kind of hoping I wasn't going to play again, but I've been working with Steve Peters and that's really helped me. But for me it's about finding the balance between my home life and being away from my kids, as well as the
enjoyment of playing.”
The 36-year-old will be up against 2011 UK Championship winner, Judd Trump, or the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open winner, Stuart Bingham, in the quarter-final clash of the event.
