Ronnie O’Sullivan wants to do other things besides snooker – Snooker News
With each passing day, a new statement comes from the four-time World Snooker Champion from England’s Ronnie O’Sullivan regarding his issues with the snooker governing body, World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA). Now he has said that
if he is not playing in big snooker tournaments then he will have to do other stuff rather than participating in the major events.
The Wordsley potter stated recently, “Other players like John Higgins and Mark Williams may feel the same as me soon. Get them with, maybe, Stephen Hendry, Ding Junhui, Neil Robertson and Judd Trump and you have a show. These are the players people want
to see. The rest, like Ali Carter, are making up the numbers.”
The Englishman added, “I don’t see myself as in competition with World Snooker, they have big tournaments, but if I’m not in main events I need to do other stuff.”
The Rocket refused to sign the new snooker season contract with World Snooker because he wanted a break before beginning the new season campaign. On his recent comments, World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn responded that they will not sanction anything counter-productive
to the association.
The problem began when World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn announced that World Snooker has added more tournaments in the upcoming season. A couple of leading guns of snooker like Ronnie O’Sullivan, John Higgins and Ali Carter opposed this addition saying
that the players will not have any spare time to spend with their friends and family if they play all the year.
However, the association did not change their decision and the Essex Exocet declined to participate in the new season. He said he will take part in selective snooker events during the season. In reply, the WPBSA stated that any player can take part in any
event but he must sign the contract.
Last week, the Englishman spoke again deciding that he will take part in the 2012 Shanghai Masters snooker tournament if the promoters or the host country allows him a wild card entry. O’Sullivan also suggested to the WPBSA that they should change the wild
card award structure and follow the structure of tennis and golf.
