Ronnie O’Sullivan whitewashes Jimmy White in the semi-final – 2011 Premier League Snooker
Ronnie ‘The Rocket’ O’Sullivan has beaten the Whirlwind, Jimmy White, by a frame score of 3-0 in a best-of-five frames semi-final match of the 10th event of the 2011 Premier League Snooker tournament.
This event was held at the Grimsby Auditorium in Grimsby, England.
It was a top performance for O’Sullivan as he hardly took 26 minutes to shrug off White, who is a six-time World Championship finalist. The overall score-line between both players was 87-29 (O’Sullivan 65), 75-6 (O’Sullivan 39, 36), 120-6 (O’Sullivan 103).
In the opening frame, both players were seen toiling their rhythm before O’Sullivan knocked in a modest break of 65 to draw the first blood 1-0.
The second frame was a scrappy affair in which many chances were seen coming and going but in the end, it was again O’Sullivan who appeared on top to further extend his lead at 2-0.
The 49-year-old White, who was left down by two frames with three to play, was the first one to be among the balls in the third yet he failed to capitalise, breaking down on 6, and when the chance presented itself O’Sullivan slotted a magnificent break of
103 to finish the matter off in style.
Jimmy White is often referred to as the ‘People’s Champion’ and he always pulls a large crowd into the arena. O’Sullivan on the same note is also liked a lot by the people therefore, he was excited upon winning White.
O’Sullivan admired White and revealed he is enjoying the event.
“Jimmy is one of those players who oozes class and is a legend even if he’s not playing well,” said O’Sullivan. “I feel great really happy now and chilled out for the last six or seven months. But you come to Grimsby and there are 1000 people so I’m here
to do the business, entertain and put on a show so the adrenalin is definitely flowing.”
O’Sullivan will now face former 2005 World Champion, Shaun Murphy, who is also known as the Magician, in the final and all left to see is whether O’Sullivan will be able to produce a similar performance in the final or not.
