Ronnie Shields: Edwin Rodriguez can nail Donovan George by evading his jabs - Boxing news
Ronnie Shields, trainer Edwin Rodriguez, recently said that Edwin, who is on an undefeated win streak, will be able to collect a win over Donovan George easily if he stays out of Don’s punch range and deteriorates his confidence in the initial rounds by
his impressive pugilism.
Edwin Rodriguez, the former United States super middleweight champion, is scheduled to take on Donovan George, the incumbent USBA super middleweight champion in a10-round non-title bout. The duo will co-headline HBO’s epic Saturday night ‘World Championship
Boxing’ show.
DiBella Entertainment’s proud presentation will have Sergio Martinez defend his WBC Diamond middleweight title against Matthew Macklin in the main event. The whole event will take place at the prestigious Madison Square Garden situated in New York, , United
States.
Edwin, 26, well known as ‘La Bomba’, has entered the ring a total 20 times and emerged as a victor in all of his engagements. The young lad has collected a whopping 14 wins by knockout which proves that how much of a hardcore jabber the Dominican is.
Edwin’s intimidating resume boasts two most emphatic wins that caught media’s eye. The orthodox stance lad has nailed James McGirt and Aaron Pryor Junior, two men who have made themselves quite a reputation in the division.
Donovan, on the contrary, is a bit more experienced than Edwin. Infamous as ‘Da Bomb’, Don has been in a total 24 bouts and came out victorious in 23. He is also famous for his impressive raw powered battering and is feared by most for his powerful left
hook.
The 27-year-old American has collected a huge 19 wins by knocking the opponent out brutally. Unfortunately, George tasted the bitter flavour of defeat when he engaged Francisco Sierra in a 10-round skirmish.
The bout did not go well and Don lost the chance to become the WBO NABO super middleweight champion. George is a lethal opponent who does not gives his opponent’s even split leverage, the reason why even Ronnie denoted him as a dangerous opponent.
Ronnie while sharing his thoughts said, “Donovan George is a very dangerous opponent who is going to throw a lot of punches. So what Edwin Rodriguez has to do is control the pace of every round. He can’t let Donovan come out and dictate the action early
in the fight. Edwin has to get off first, throw quick combinations, and turn him by stepping out of the way.”
Shields, the former featherweight pugilist, while discussing the game plan that Edwin will follow, said, “Edwin is the superior fighter in this match-up. He is one of the best young fighters in boxing, but he must take away Donovan’s confidence early.”
The bout will be televised on Saturday March 17, 2012 and will be televised on HBO, Australia Main Event, and Hungary’s Sports 1.
