Ronny Markes derails Aaron Simpson off his win streak at UFC on Fuel TV 1 – UFC news
UFC on Fuel TV 1 witnessed the Brazilian Ronny Markes make a memorable and emphatic middleweight division debut by collecting a split decision win over Aaron Simpson in a one-on-one bout held on February 15, 2012 at Omaha Civic Auditorium.
The event was held by Ultimate Fighting Championship in collaboration with Fuel TV and Fox network and was broadcasted by Fuel TV as its first episode of a series. The pay-per-view was headlined by the bout between Jake Ellenberger and Diego Sanchez, an
epic bout won by Jake.
Ronny, 23, was in his career’s second UFC fight and was coming after collecting a tremendous motivational win over former Cage Fighters Champion Karlos Vemola. The bout was the young Brazilian’s middleweight debut and was against a brawler who has spent
most of his time in UFC.
Markes had been in a total 12 mixed martial art bouts and lost just one brawl against Paulo Rodrigues via submission. The stats of the rookie Ronny show that he has almost an equal command on both the knockout capability and the ability to make an opponent
submit. Ronny has collected four of his total wins by knockouts and the same by making his opponent submit.
Aaron on the other hand, 37, is a pure brawling veteran who clearly relies on his knockout ability and tries his level best to take on the opponent by throwing maximum lethal punches. Infamous as the ‘A-Train’, Simpson had been in a total 13 bouts and lost
just two bouts until he got derailed by the energetic and determined Ronny.
Ronny and Aaron entered the octagon and fought for three rounds of five minutes each. Markes unleashed his might in the beginning of the first round but in the later rounds Aaron unleashed his aggression as well.
At the end of the third round, just in the final minute Ronny was able to take down his opponent for one last time but the bell rang and the brawl was over. The bout was close enough to perplex the referees to select the winner but eventually it was Ronny
who was awarded the show with scores of 29-28, 28-29 and 29-28.
When asked to comment on his win, Ronny remarked, “It took a lot of determination to come in here and put on a good show for you guys.”
Ronny now has 13 wins in 13 bouts and Aaron’s resume now shows 11 wins and three losses in a total 14 brawls.
