Ronny Rios to put his undefeated win streak on the line against Guillermo Sanchez – Boxing News
Ronny Rios, the surging young American super featherweight, who is scheduled to take on Guillermo Sanchez, recently shared his thoughts about his upcoming engagement and said that he has sparred for 6 weeks and has mostly concentrated on solidifying his
defence while keeping in mind Sanchez’s southpaw stance.
Rios and Sanchez will headline the pay-per-view promoted by Golden Boy Promotions’ Richard Schaefer and will collide in the ring stretched at Phoenix Club situated in Anaheim, California, United States.
The Saturday night show which will be televised on TeleFutura on April 7, 2012, will be co-headlined by the eight-round non-title skirmish between Hugo Centeno Jr and Gerardo Cesar Prieto.
Rios, 22, is considered as a talented individual and a potential prospect in the super featherweight division. Though he currently resides at the 100th position in the world rankings yet he has achieved much in his young career and will take just three to
four years in reaching the top 10 of the division.
The young Santa Ana lad has been in a total 17 bouts and emerged victorious in all. He has collected just eight wins by knockout and lacks the heavy pounding ability. To some extent, Ronny has an upper hand over his fellow countryman Sanchez.
Guillermo, 23, has been in a total 19 bouts and was able to win just 13 bouts, five of them by knockout. He has also won the WBC youth world lightweight gold but lost it in his very first title defence against Eric Cruz.
Sanchez, infamous as ‘The Vampire’, is slightly overshadowed by the young Rios and will have to strive hard in order to break Ronny’s undefeated streak. Ronny, who has recently finished his sparring and training session, shared his thoughts about the upcoming
engagement.
Ronny said, “Originally, we were told that we were going to fight a southpaw, so I sparred against (unbeaten southpaw) Luis Ramos. We worked for about six weeks in preparation for this fight. I don’t watch tapes of fights. I let my corner (Hector Lopez)
take care of that.”
While sharing his strategy for the Saturday night fight, Rios said, “We were working on defense for this particular camp. Based on how we’ve trained, we hope to break him down and take him out in the later rounds.”
The bout will definitely be a tooth and nail one since Sanchez direly needs to break his three-bout lose streak but on the other hand, Ronny will also put everything in the bout since he has to defend his win streak.
