Roof flaps?

why is it that sometimes one of the roof flaps stay up after a spin?

  1. Jason is right. There is no locking mechanisms  No springs or struts either. They are worked by cables, and the air causes them to flip up. Watch, when a car spins, when it faces forward again, they go back down. Then if it goes backward again, they go back up and so on. If they had the locks, and stuff, they'd just stay up the whole time.


  2. They probably have a spring or strut that holds them up....Maybe it just got stuck!!!

  3. they have a locking mechanism and it has to be put down by hand.  It was designed this way.  It's a safety feature, I'm not 100% sure of the reason.

  4. No springs or struts, they just plain get stuck sometimes.

    ....Sorry, no locking mechanisms either. They are strictly wind-pressure operated. They demonstrated the flaps on the cut-away car a few weeks back on the pre-race show.

  5. Buckshot is correct.  That way they do not close while the car is still in danger of flipping.
