Rookie Manny Machado shines as Baltimore Orioles crush Kansas City Royals 7-1 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles dominated the Kansas City Royals to secure a comfortable 7-1 win to level their four match series at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Friday, August 10.
Orioles’ offence, in particular, looked in top form as they took complete advantage of Royals’ unforced to put a decent total on the board.
Second baseman Omar Quintanilla had a great time on the plate as he belted a two run home-run to right centre in the second inning to put Baltimore 2-1 ahead.
Third baseman Manny Machado also played key role in deciding the outcome of the clash, as he belted a mighty home-run to left in the fifth inning.
"It was great," Machado said in a post game interview. "I've dreamed about that my whole life, about going out there and getting that curtain call, and second game in the big leagues I get it."
"It's two games. He's off to a good start," Manager Buck Showalter said of Machado. "He's hit some mistakes and hit them well, which guys have to do up here. He'll have the kitchen sink thrown at him and we'll see how it goes. But so far, so good."
Nate McLouth doubled to deep left centre and Machado hit his second home-run in the sixth inning to give Baltimore complete control of the situation, leading the score 7-1.
Starting pitcher Miguel Gonzalez made quick work of Royals’ struggling batting line-up as he gave up just a run on six hits in eight effective innings, lowering his ERA to 3.42. Relief pitcher Pedro Strop pitched the perfect ninth to help the O’s complete
a crushing win.
Royals’ starter Luke Hochevar, on the other hand, looked a bit out of sorts right from the word go. He gave up seven runs in just over five innings to take his 10th loss of the season. Salvador Perez homered to right in the second inning to score
the only run for the Royals.
Orioles’, who are placed second on American League East Division standings, will be looking to continue their good work in Game 3 to keep Royals on the defensive.
