Rookie O-lineman Brandon Brooks signs with Houston Texans, may get starting role – NFL News
The Houston Texans have defied the odds and signed all their rookies well in time for training camp this week - thanks to inclusion of rookies deal rule in the new collective bargaining agreement (CBA), signing of the draft picks has never been so easy and
efficient.
Brandon Brooks, the rookie offensive lineman, is the latest and last player the Houston Texans have agreed to deal terms with, and this sets him and other draft picks head for training camp, starting this week.
While the players are asked to report to the camp a couple of days earlier, the actual training activity will start this Saturday and last until the mid-August.
Brandon, selected at 76th overall position off the 2012 draft held in April, is former Miami college player.
Some commentators expect the Texans to try the player out on the starting line straightaway, given he has some experience at the leading position in the college league. He had been entrusted with the starting role for 41 out of the total 45 games he played
for the RedHawks.
Although coach Gary Kubiak has not said anything about going for this option, he is reportedly impressed with the rookie's skills and is most likely to give him an opportunity any time during the season.
The reason for the Houston Texans being a bit of careful to their future moves is that the team has too higher expectations out of the 2012 NFL season.
They did remarkably well last season by reaching the playoffs and winning their division title for the first time in their franchise history. This year they are coming out as a Super Bowl contender, which seems to have made them take very cautious and calculative
steps to improve from the last year’s level. Therefore, they are least likely to try out too many players at different positions.
Apparently, the team is backing for more stable and solid moves and infrequent changes, which can lead to instability and inconsistency in their output.
