Rookie QB, Andrew Luck, faces challenge of poor quality talent at Indianapolis Colts offence – NFL News
There is a unanimous view in the league that Indianapolis Colts’ rookie quarterback, Andrew Luck, has great potential for success in the pro league from his very first appearance but there is a problem and no one has looked at it until the recently tweeted
brief analysis of Around The League of the NFL.com.
ATL editor, Gregg Rosenthal, while answering to the tweeted questions of some of his readers on the American Independence Day, July 04, wrote that Luck’s success is not a matter dependent alone on his own potential, talent and skills. It will depend on the
entire offence of the team and this is where the player is pushed on the back foot.
The 2011 season has exposed the quality of talent that Colts possess at the running back and receivers positions. It, without any argument, is far below the league average.
This makes the rookie QB to raise level of his performance well above his potential to make up for the poor quality of receivers and running backs.
The situation is similar to the one Luck’s predecessor Peyton Manning had confronted. Manning played for Colts for 14 consecutive seasons and all those years were the most successful period for the team. Unfortunately, he missed one season (2011) due to
a neck injury and quality of the talent at other offensive positions was fully exposed.
It turned out to be so drastic situation that the team, who with Manning in the squad had boasted successive victories, could not win more than two out of 16 games without him. None of the players at other positions could give a noticeable performance.
Now Luck is expected to be through a similar circumstance. He just does not have to perform for the sake of his own success but to take an extra leap to cover up others’ weaknesses.
He apparently does not have an alternative choice. The situation is even more serious for him given he is going to make his first pro appearance and has many expectations to meet. Overall, stakes are quite high for him in his first pro year. So he must step
up level of his game from very first participation.
