Rookie QB Andrew Luck close to formally join Indianapolis Colts after studies -NFL News
The Indianapolis Colts are in anxious wait to see their quarterback, Andrew Luck, back from his studies to rejoin the squad, expecting him to be a regular part of the team from the mandatory three-day minicamp due to start from June 12.
Luck, after being selected in the first round of the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft, is attending Stanford College, finishing his remaining courses of the architectural design programme.
Since the NFL rules prevent him from participating in any recognised team activities before finishing his college, he deserted Indianapolis after the initial induction process at the team’s rookie camp last month.
Andrew’s last exam is on June 07 and the first thing he sees beyond his college is the return to Indianapolis.
In one of his earlier remarks, the player said that he would rejoin his pro teammates the very next day he finished his studies.
His return is also expected to coincide with his signing of a deal with Colts, which, according to the owner, Jim Irsay, is almost done.
So all seems set to welcome back Luck to his new pro team and probably the player is aware of the pressure, challenges and opportunities of the professional league.
According to some of his new colleagues, the player is ready for the challenge and he found the time away from the team, while attending college, very difficult to spend.
Yet they have emphasised that the player has remained conscious of his training and fitness requirement, continuing to workout with his college teammates along with his studies, so that he is not left behind on the fitness front.
Wide receiver, Austin Collie, said of Luck:
"I don't want to say he's miserable, but you can tell it bugs him. He's not here, and it's probably killing him."
Luck’s performance is crucial for his career prospects, but it is even more important for the future of Indianapolis Colts.
Colts are in a dire situation at the QB position since the absence and then departure of Peyton Manning, and they see a future winner in Luck.
Any degree of failure would gravely disappoint them.
