Rookie QB Ryan Tannehill in deal difficulties as Miami Dolphins insist for offset language – NFL News
Rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill is reported to be in a dire situation with regard to his deal from the Miami Dolphins as the team continues to insist on inclusion of the offset language in terms of the prospective contract.
Given the player is already through some difficulties to win the starting role straightaway this season, the management has all the advantage of holding against the player to secure themselves financial guarantees on his rookie four-year deal in case of
any awkward situation over the tenure.
A section of media has reported that the Dolphins are continually emphasizing to include the offset language.
Some commentators see the demand to be ridiculous one given the Indianapolis Colts and Washington Redskins have signed their rookie QBs – Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III respectively without asking for the language.
The offset language, which according to some reports is introduced on the behest of the National Football League (NFL), is not working at all.
As abovementioned, no team has so far pursued it this season. Only the Dolphins are trying to rely on it so as to protect themselves financially in case the player is released anytime during the tenure of the deal.
Some commentators believe it is not a fair shot as the players tend to be on the risk of more financial hardships than the teams. If it was so necessary the teams like the Indianapolis Colts should not have given it up then.
Nevertheless, the media reports pointed out that the Dolphins’ stubbornness for inclusion of the languages is under the influence of the franchise Vice President, Dawn Aponte, who once had worked in the NFL’s management council.
It is not clear so far if the player’s agent is able to convince the managers to give another thought about it. The problem for the player is that the ball now seems to be in the Dolphins’ court. Earlier, the rookie was projected as a starting QB straight
after the start of the season. Now he is being rated for the no. 3 slot, putting him at a disadvantage.
