Rookie Quarterback Robert Griffin III changes Washington Redskins’ fortune – NFL Feature
Washington Redskins, who ended their 2011 season at 5-11, have revamped their record this season and have surprisingly become a strong playoff contender, thanks to impressive performances from rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3).
Griffin is an amazing player and a game-changer. He decides quickly about his next move and gets it done within a few moments.
The opposing defences have tried all the methods to control him, but still he knows how to penetrate the defences. He is young, tough, athletic and has speed.
He said of his own performance recently:
“Just throwing everything when I’m supposed to throw it, and getting to my check-downs when I’m supposed to get to my check-downs. I think I’m doing a better job of managing that part of the offense. But that comes through hard work, through game-time reps,
just knowing where to go with the ball. Everything’s clearing up. Every game that goes by, things are clearing up, and that’s something I’m excited about for the future.”
RG3 has performed really well throughout the season and has a great combination with rookie running back Alfred Morris and wide receiver Pierre Garcon.
For keeping Griffin standing on field, the offensive line has helped him a lot, by blocking and providing lanes for Morris. Due to this cooperation, Redskins have one of the best rushing offences in the National Football League (NFL) this season.
Redskins’ passing game has also improved this season and the credit, again, goes to RG3. In his rookie season, the quarterback has sustained a few injuries, but that has not deterred him.
During Week 5 game against Atlanta Falcons, he got concussed when linebacker Sean Weatherspoon hit strongly on his head. He got hit on his ribs while getting sacked during Week 9 game against Carolina Panthers. In Week 14 game, he was hit by Baltimore Ravens
defensive tackle Haloti Ngata and got his LCL sprained in right knee.
Even though he missed a game recently, the team was able to win in his absence. It seems that the momentum the rookie has created is motivating all the players now.
With his tremendous performance in debut season, he can become the rookie of the year, but he also has strong competitors in Seattle Seahawks’ Russell Wilson and Indianapolis Colts’ Andrew Luck.
Center Will Montgomery said of RG3:
“We want to see RG break records. We feel we have a big part in that. And we feel we’re proving what we can do.”
