Rookie Roberto Castro enters the field of the Valero Texas Open – Golf News
Roberto Castro, rookie on the 2012 PGA Tour, has entered the field of the Valero Texas Open with an average record in seven tournaments that he has played so far this year.
In those seven tournaments, he made the cut six times, including the best finish being tied for a T14 position in the Puerto Rico Open.
Despite the fact that he has not been able to record a top-10 finish yet, he only went over par six times, including two rounds in the Mayakoba Golf Classic where he missed the cut.
Moreover, his ball-striking has remained extraordinary in each of the tournaments that he has played so far. He is currently ranked third in ‘Total driving’ category on the PGA Tour.
The only problem that he faces during the events is that he fails to perform to his best in the third round. His average for the third round this year on the PGA Tour is 71.67, which needs him to think seriously about the reason behind it.
According to the many commentators, he always gets into pressure when he enters the final two rounds of any event.
The time he takes to adjust makes a huge difference in the end and he settles down taking a lower position on the leaderboard.
Therefore, he must concentrate on playing his natural game, as he tries to make extra efforts to surge up on the leaderboard.
As a result, mistakes come his way, causing the bogeys to add to his scorecard, spoiling his overall performance in the tournament.
In Shell Houston Open, the last tournament he played on the PGA Tour, he carded a total of six bogeys. The most notable was the three bogeys coming in the third round against one each in the other three rounds.
Many golf analysts believe that his consistent performances to go under par in each of the tournaments that he played, except the Mayakoba Golf Classic, may threaten his opponents at the Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio.
Last year, Brendan Steele was playing as a rookie on the PGA Tour when he registered his maiden victory at the Valero Texas Open after carding an eight-under par tournament score.
