Rookie Russell Wilson impresses Seattle Seahawks – NFL News
In his first National Football League (NFL) start, Seattle Seahawks rookie quarterback Rookie Russell shined like a bright star, leaving the observers in awe as he led his team to an impressive victory against Kansas City Chiefs on Friday, August 24, 2012.
Wilson completed 13 of 19 passes for 185 yards, averaging 9.7 yards per pass, and got two touchdowns as the Seahawks continued their undefeated preseason.
The Seahawks have won all their preseason games, defeating Tennessee Titans, Denver Broncos and Chiefs. They will face Oakland Raiders in the preseason finale on next Thursday.
In the first two preseason games, the Seahawks gave Wilson playing time, but Matt Flynn was their starter. In this game, they decided to go with Wilson and the rookie impressed the observers at the time when the Seahawks are going to decide their starting
quarterback for the upcoming season.
Although Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has not said that Wilson could be the starter after his impressive preseason performances, the rookie will seriously be considered for the role. Furthermore, there is no denying that the management is pretty much
satisfied with Wilson’s performance. According to the details present on the team’s website, Carroll said of Wilson:
“He’s done everything we’ve asked him. When John (Schneider, the GM) was excited about drafting him and we got the momentum going to make that pick, this is guy we hoped that he would be.”
Meanwhile, Wilson has said that he tries keeping his focus on the game and that is why he has succeeded so far. He said:
“I just try to relax as much as I can – relax my mind, just play football. I prepare myself in every way possible. I get there early. I leave late. I try to always mentally prepare myself and visualize being successful.”
During the game against Chiefs, Seahawks played with quarterbacks Wilson and Tarvaris Jackson. Flynn was not supposed to start the game, but it was expected that he would be introduced later in the game.
However, it was reported before the start of the game that Flynn had a sore elbow and would miss the game.
With Flynn injured and Jackson’s trade reports circulating, Wilson might get start in the preseason finale as well, but no official comment has been made in this matter yet.
