Rookie Taylor Green doing the expected for the Milwaukee Brewers – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers are known to have keen eyes when it comes to the talent. The Brewers, on the other hand, always prove this observation right. When the team signed Taylor Green from Class AAA Nashville last month, there were already growing signs the
player had a promising future ahead.
He has manifested that talent with the phenomenal consistency so far. In his Class AAA Nashville, Green had 22 home (and 88 runs batted) with a hitting average of .336. Not only that, he has been unusually good when it comes to pinch hitting.
Having joined the team on 27th of last month, Green scored a ringing single, quite extraordinarily, in the very first Major League at-bat against the St. Louis Cardinals. Were it not Ryan Howard who thwarted him from scoring a pinch-hitting double,
Green would have done something great against the otherwise unbeatable Philadelphia Phillies as well.
The admirably good performance of this budding player is indeed a sensation to watch. For him, however, it is always about doing the right thing. He acknowledges he gets ‘goose bumps’ when he descends on the plate. But, as is the characteristic of a player
with the talent, he holds his nerves.
"Every game so far I get the goose bumps still," Green said. "I don't know if that will wear off yet for a long time. I found a way to deal with it - the first couple games I just wouldn't look up. I'd just keep looking down."
The fact that he was called in when he was in the fledgling phase of his career in the Minor League shows he has the potential to do what is expected of him in the days to come. It is, therefore, understandable to get an idea of what a developing player
thinks when such a big offer is made to him.
"I didn't really know what was going to happen when I got called up," said the 24-year-old from Comox, British Columbia. "All I did know was that I was going to try and take advantage of every opportunity I got, and I've gotten quite a few opportunities."
But nonetheless, having his old Nashville team-mates around, there is not much to look behind now for Green. From Martin Maldonado to Mike Fiers and Logan Schafer who star in the Milwaukee Brewers now, Green has had the ample opportunity to easily acquaint
himself with the team and equally adapt to the new environment to remain in a comfort zone in the days to come. He has a tremendous opportunity to show off his talent and skills to the management and the rest of MLB. It will be interesting to see what impact
Green has on the Brewers for the remainder of the regular season.
