Rookie Veronica Felibert proves her mettle at Walmart NW Arkansas Championship 2012
Rookie Veronica Felibert may not be as experienced a contender as Paula Creamer or Yani Tseng, but she has proved her mettle by performing well at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship 2012.
Felibert, who belongs to Venezuela, posted an overall 203 to finish tied for the fourth position on the leaderboard.
Getting off to a solid start, Felibert grabbed much of the attention at Pinnacle Country Club, Rogers, as she took a first-round lead by shooting an explosive 65. She made comfortable strokes on almost all
the holes and held her nerve when came face to face against top-ranked contenders.
Analysts said that snatching a lead in the first round reflects Felibert’s resilience, and it is expected that she will further improve her game in the upcoming tournaments.
The Venezuelan star’s best performance was seen in the second round, as she fired a 66. She shot five birdies and avoided recording any bogey. Although the field featured some of the most talented LPGA (Ladies
Professional Golf Association) players, the young prodigy did not seem to be nervous at all.
Expressing her joy at the end of the tournament, Felibert said that she could not believe when she saw her name at the fourth position on the leaderboard.  The rising star added that her performance in the
said event has boosted her confidence, which will keep her momentum going in the upcoming events.
The Venezuela golfer said that she meant to play with a new approach, but could not do so. She went on to say that despite the strong field, she played her best and made calculated putts on most of the holes.
“It's pretty amazing.  I didn't play the way I wanted but I didn't feel nervous at all, I was surprised.  I thought I was going to be more nervous.  But my swing wasn't there and I didn't try to like fight
it, I just played with what I got and it wasn't enough,” Felibert said.
“My putts were all the time short, I just had a hard time getting them to the hole.  So not a good day for me, but it was pretty cool and looking forward to do it again”.
