Rookie WR Dwight Jones misses OTAs as Houston Texans deny his exit-NFL News
The Houston Texans have played down the reports of the undrafted rookie wide receiver, Dwight Jones, quitting the team.
Jones missed organised team activities (OTAs) on Tuesday, May 29, and there are reports in some online media sections that the player has parted ways with the team.
Gary Kubiak, the Texans’ head coach, has declined directly responding to the reports or commenting around the possibility of the player leaving them.
He said that the management was due to speak to the player later in the afternoon to see where they were on the situation.
Kubiak said:
Jones is "a young man with a lot of information (being thrown) at him."
The coach added:
He is "struggling a bit today, and we'll talk to him this afternoon and see where we're at."
The player had made it to the headlines, drawing extensive criticism last week after he commented on a radio programme jokingly that he was going to be “next Andre Johnson”, the star wide receiver of Texans.
Apparently, there is no other reported development of a situation between him and the management that could have led to the possibility of the player’s exit.
It is being speculated that the player has left the team without explaining his decision.
Moreover, since the team has not accepted or denied the validity of those reports, all the information around the player’s future is very sketchy and unconfirmed.
The absence of the WR is particularly notable for the team as they were out on the field without Andre Johnson, who is recovering from a knee procedure done last week.
Jones is coming out of the college league from North Carolina and it does not look to be very promising start to his pro career.
It is hoped that there is no major issue between him and the team, which could possibly have a negative outfall on his pro career prospects.
As reflected in the coach’s remarks, the player’s decision seems emotionally-driven instead of having any rational reason.
