Rookie WR Justin Blackmon gets 4-year, $18.5 million deal with Jacksonville Jaguars – NFL News
The troubled rookie wide receiver Justin Blackmon is due to sign a four-year, $18.5 million contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars as both sides are learnt to have agreed to terms of the player’s deal.
Both sides confirmed they will sign the contract later on Tuesday, which should end the uncertainty surrounding formal start of the pro career of the receiver.
Justin is expected to arrive at training camp after the delay of 11 days. He is the last rookie in the National Football League (NFL) to get the deal from his pro franchise.
The Jaguars selected him in the fifth round of the 2012 NFL draft held in April and a number of analysts agree that the player has received the maximum payout allowed under the league’s rules of payment to the fifth-round picks.
The receiver’s deal was delayed because of the troubles he had been through at the very outset of his arrival in the Jacksonville. He was arrested on the driving under the influence (DUI) charge and received one-year deferred punishment/jail term on certain
conditions, including the community service.
Luckily, he escaped the possibility of facing any disciplinary action from the team or the NFL, and now signing of the deal sets the tone of his career course given he avoids possibilities of any trouble in the future.
Irrespective of the WR’s off-field issues, he is rated to be a talented player. He has the potential to attain fast success in the pro career by remaining focused on his game and working hard on the field.
Apparently, the team is hopeful of his pro prospects. A number of commentators believe the Jaguars are lucky to have signed a receiver of this much talent after so long, and his success can turn around tables for the team.
Blackmon is yet awaited to make his first appearance at training camp, where he will display his real talent and skills.
The Jaguars are coming on the field this season with new owner, new coach and new players at certain positions, and the prospective performance of all players stands crucial to the team’s future success.
