Rookie among big names at Women’s Australian Open
Women’s Australian Open is going to start this week at Royal Melbourne, Australia, with a number of leading golfers set to give their rivals a tough time. However, a rookie has also geared up to do her best in the strong field.
Rah, who hails from Torrance California, is among many big names eyeing a victory at one of the most prestigious events on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association).
Royal Melbourne holds definite appeal for rookies, and Rah certainly knows if she has to make a name for herself, good performance is all she needs.
Royal Melbourne will feature a roster that includes Yani Tseng, Lexi Thompson and other key players.
Given the strong field, it will be difficult for the rookie to grab much attention. However, making a modest score will certainly pay off in terms of increased confidence.
Rah made it to the 2012 season of the LPGA Tour after she qualified at the Symetra Tour money list last season. She finished the event fifth and managed to earn enough to bolster her position.
Her journey to LPGA Tour was fraught with plenty of hard work and consistency. Most of the 2011 season, she focused on her swing skills.
As a new player on the course, Rah had to spend hours on practice range to master skills needed to shine in tournaments.
In addition to practice, the young American had to battle some inevitable injuries. With luck and extra efforts, Rah soon strengthen her game, enabling her to qualify Symetra Tour money list last year.
Speaking to the media, she said she was desperate to have some time off before setting foot at Royal Melbourne.
She explained that months of training and events exhausted her and she thought resting for while will give her renewed strength for the first LPGA tournament.
She commented, “I didn't touch my golf clubs. Then I got the opportunity to go to China (Shenzhen) and just spend a little over a week there. I explored and played golf”.
“It was amazing to see another country. I realized I've been living in a bubble in the U.S. It's definitely a nice bubble but there is so much more going on in the world than most of us think,” she further added.
It will be interesting to see if her determination, combined with extensive hard work, will pay off as the tournament kicks off.
