Rookie of the Year?

As I was browsing through the NBA website there was a poll asking who do you think will be the 2008-09 Rookie of the Year and Greg Oden's name was on the list. I thought he wasn't eligible seeing as how he was drafted 2007-2008 with Durant? He's already surpassed what would have been his rookie year, he should be a Sophmore right? Who do you think will win Rookie of the Year?

  1. SInce he did not play at all last season cuz of his injury, he is eligible for ROY this upcoming season.

I think either Oden or Beasley will win it

  2. he never played so he will be a rookie

  3. Greg Oden is eligible for the Rookie of the Year because he didn't even play a single game last season. He is my bet for Rookie of the Year.

    Other considerations:

    Michael Beasley

    Russell Westbrook

  4. Michael beasely will be rookie of the year and Oden didn't play his rookie year that's why he's still eligible.

  5. i'll go with Beasley, especially if MIA wins 45+ games, just based on how bad they were last season

  6. It's based on when you actually start playing, not the year you were drafted.

I'm thinking Beasley will win ROY.  Not necessarily because he is the best player out of this year's class, but because he will probably put up the biggest numbers.

Rose will have a solid year, but he might have some growing pains.  PG is one of the hardest positions to master, and he probably won't put up monster numbers.

Oden will have a nice year, but mostly with rebounding and defense.  They probably won't require him to score a ton of points, and he needs to work on his footwork and post moves.

There are some other guys that will get some consideration, but I think Beasley is the best pure scorer.  Miami will need him to score and he will get the minutes to do it.  I can see him averaging between 15-20 pts this season and that should be enough to win him the award.

  7. Michael Beasley, Heat

  8. Beasley...

  9. he didnt play a single game, so he is elgible, with a retirement plan too lol

  10. Since Greg didn't play @ all last yr he's eligible for the ROY award.

As much as I want Greg Oden to win it. It will with a doubt be Michael Beasley. Bot just because of his style of play but because he fell into the perfect situation. With Shawm Marion and D-Wade on the perimeter how good can life be for him? He'll almost always be in single coverage so scoring shouldnt be a problem. And he's proved he can rebound with big men only being 6-7 himself. So they ROY award will be handed to him on a silver platter.

My 2 dark horses to win are O.J. Mayo and Jerryd Bayless.

O.J. because in Memphis with Rudy g*y, Mike Conley, Marc Gasol & Co. he should be able to light the place up.

I would also say Jerryd because if you don't count Beasley at the end of the day he fell into the perfect situation. To be the PG that they needed and still get some open looks himself, in 3 years, Portland will be the face of the league.

  11. Oden hands down.

  12. Thats because he didnt even play. But it doesnt matter because OJ Mayo is going to win
