Rookie outfielder Adron Chambers replaces Matt Holliday in Game 7 of World Series – MLB Update
The rookie out-fielder Adron Chambers replaced Matt Holliday on Friday as the St. Louis Cardinals left-fielder suffered a sprained right wrist against the Texas Rangers in Game 6 of the World Series. The slugger’s departure may affect the team to a certain
extent.
On Thursday, Holliday was picked off at third base by Mike Napoli, the Texas Rangers catcher in the sixth inning of the game. The injury was sustained when the Texas Rangers’ third baseman Adrian Beltre unintentionally stepped on the finger of the left-fielder.
Initially it did not seem something worrying, but the results afterwards were not good enough to have him in the side on Friday. The finger started bleeding which prompted the team management to bring in Allen Craig to replace him during the game.
The good news, however, is that the injury is not a broken finger, but just soreness.
When asked about the mishap, the left-fielder representing the St. Louis Cardinals commented that he thought it was broken. “I thought it might be [broken]," Holliday said Thursday, though X-rays revealed that there was no break. "It was sore."
However, as for the fact whether he will be playing or not, Tony La Russa was not sure about it while Holliday expressed his hope that he will play in Game 7 of the World Series which now stands tied.
"I think it's swelling, and he's got a pretty good bruise there," La Russa said. "So it may be we need to replace him for tomorrow."
The tendinitis remained a regular feature of the left-fielder this season. He did not have a particularly good year when it came to the staying fit. Chambers, who is going to replace Holliday now, has a record of 1-for-5 and two RBIs to his credit.
It will be interesting to see how Chambers manages to soak in the intense pressure of playing in a Game 7 of the World Series. As to Holliday’s appearance in the game, the team manager has commented on the fact that he has got a bruise which will not probably
allow him to play in the game.
