Rookies expected to give Anthony Davis stiff competition next NBA season – Part 1
Success has been a huge part of Anthony Davis’s career so far and coming into his rookie NBA season, he would hope to stay on the same course.
The year could not have gone any better for Davis, who won the NCAA Championship by leading the Kentucky Wildcat, and bagging all the individual honours college basketball had to offer as a freshman.
Davis’s impressive collegiate stint earned him top selection in this year’s draft, made by the New Orleans Hornets, and after Blake Griffin suffered a knee injury, the youngster made his way into the US Olympic roster.
Despite not getting much playing time with team USA, Davis could not have asked for a better group to learn his trait from. Davis’s Olympic campaign ended with winning a gold medal with team USA thus putting an exclamation mark over an already successful year.
Coming into next season, Davis would like to keep going in a similar fashion and bagging the Rookie of the Year honours would be the first thing in priority.
However as widespread as the game of basketball has become these days, Davis will face stiff competition from other rookies looking to cement themselves as top players.
1. Thomas Robinson
Thomas Robinson may not have gotten selected as high as he was projected to be but the overall 5th selection by Sacramento Kings does make him a credible talent to watch out for as he makes a bid for the Rookie of the Year honours.
Coming into the rookie class, Robinson can taken as one of the most complete players to be arriving in the NBA this year. He led Kansas to the NCAA Finals last season only to lose out to Davis and his Wildcats but his numbers of 17.7 points and 11.9 rebounds per game earned him a top five selection in the draft.
As a rookie in the NBA, he may have to compete for playing time with DeMarcus Cousins but his ability of switch to the power forward position is bound to get him a starting place in the Kings roster.
However he will have to work very hard to land a starting position as his 34.4 percent shooting from the field during the Summer League is not going to get him any recognition. But given the talent at his disposal, he is bound to come into his own when the actual NBA gets off at the end of October.
