Rookies of the Year announced
In what was not a surprise Buster Posey and Neftali Feliz were named Rookies of the Year on Monday after both players played big parts in getting their respective teams to the World Series.
Both players faced each other in the World Series with Posey hitting a single in game five.
Feliz helped his Texas Rangers make their first World Series with 40 saves, blowing just three opportunities all season. He finished with an ERA of 2.73 and struckout 71 batters in 70 innings this season. The 22-year-old beat Austin Jackson to the award in the American League colleting 122 points with 20 first place votes.
"I hope it's not a fluke. I hope I have a better season next year," Feliz said through a translator.
Posey was called up by the San Francisco Giants at the end of May and immediately took to the major leagues hitting .305 with 18 home runs and 67 RBIs. He was the catalyst in San Francisco’s surge to the play-offs, crushing eight home runs in September.
"It's hard to believe it's been two weeks," Posey said.
Posey beat Atlanta’s Jason Heyward to the National League award winning 129 points with - like Feliz - 20 first place votes. Heyward finished second in the voting with nine first place votes.
The next big award to be announced will be the National League Cy Young award with Roy Halladay the favourite to win the award.
