Room design help please?

Hey, I'm a fifteen year old girl, I'm madd on horses, photography and I guess you could say that I'm a hippy.

I'm in one of those moods that I'm "re-creating" myself, especially since my pony passed away, so I'm going to have loads of pics of him up too.

My room is quite small, and I'd like to do it so its unique, different, spacious and cool

Maybe feng sui?

Can anybody give me advice onto how to go about this, e.g what type of curtains/blinds, colours for my room etc.

I love western too, and Street Dance. Is there a colour out there that I can do a bit of my room sort of a sandy, western brown that type of colour?

Thanks

  1. First of all to maximise space - make sure you keep your room tidy and use effective storage. Store any clutter in boxes and utilise all your space - under the bed, above the wardrobe etc.

I'm not the best to answer about Feng Sui as I don't follow it's guidelines myself. I believe if your decorate and organise your room to suit your needs then it will be a place you feel calm and comfortable.

With regards to decorating, a sandy colour for the walls sounds great. This then gives you freedom on how to decorate the rest of your walls.

I would choose your a few of your favourite photos of your horse and have them enlarged and framed really nicely (this indulges your passion for both your horse and photography - and will be a lovely way to remember your horse).

If you want to go for a western feel with a hippy twist to combine your style, I would recommend you coordinate your sandy colour with terracotas, navy and forest greens as well.

For fabrics, you should work with with leather, suede, denim and fur. Although if - like me - you are anti leather and fur, then there are some great replicas out there.

An old indian rug on the floor, saddle bags and blankets will all help with this look.

For a more fun feel, Cath Kidston does a 'Cowboy' range of printed goods. Take a look at these...

You could always buy some fabric and make some scatter cushions.

Here's some pictures for inspiration... (not all of it is too my liking but it give you an idea of colours and textures).

  2. If you want to apply Feng Shui for your room design, check first your personal favorable directions to place your bed. You should also check with the Flying Stars or the 8 Mansions system of Feng Shui to know the appropriate elements in each sector.

Horses represent the fire element, so where fire will be appropriate it will be the best place to have pics of them.

You can find all information about it, like calculators, theory etc. here:

  3. mabye this sort of design would be nice, its a cool spacious feel and looks great

  4. when re-decorating home, bedroom or any other room, always try to choose colors according to feng shui. in this case you will activate powers of 5 elements (water, earth, metal, wood and fire) and support all your lucky "areas" - this will attract love, romance, wealth, money, prosperity, luck etc etc
