Rooney decided to stay because of his fans
Things are constantly being unfolded in the recent Wayne Rooney’s episode at Manchester United. The English striker first decided to leave the club, but within two days of making his decision, he reversed it and re-signed a contract with Man United. This
led to a lot of speculations regarding Rooney’s intentions, but Ferguson has come out in defence of his player.
Sir Alex Ferguson, the manager of Manchester United, was keeping Wayne Rooney out of some important matches. When he was asked about his decisions, Ferguson remarked that the striker is being kept out because of an injury. However, every claim was proved
wrong when Rooney kept on playing for England in the Euro 2012 qualifiers. At this point, the striker also came out and told the press that Ferguson has been making false excuses regarding his injury.
When everything was going wrong for Ferguson, the striker dealt the last blow when he decided to leave Manchester United for good. Now was the time for Ferguson to reveal the truth behind this whole drama, which had kept him from letting Rooney play for
United. According to the official reports, Rooney had declined to sign a new contract with United, at the start of this season. Due to this behaviour, Alex Ferguson was keeping the player away as a sign of punishment.
Wayne Rooney gave reasons for his declination to sign a contract with Manchester United. The striker challenged the winning potential of his side, which really lacked quality this season. At this stage, it was almost certain that Wayne Rooney would be leaving
Manchester United within a year. However, there was yet another twist, rather a complete U-turn, as Rooney decided to prolong his stay, when United decided to pay him an unprecedented £250,000 wages per week.
Now was the time for the speculations to start raising their heads. Many said that Rooney only decided to stay at the club when the owners, Glazers family, decided to provide Ferguson with heavy funds in order to strengthen his squad. Others thought that
Rooney had planned every single step along the way, in order to get more out of United. This might even be a joint plan of Ferguson and Rooney, as both got something out of this deal. Ferguson has been able to get money for new players, while Rooney got some
extra money and media’s attention has been diverted from Rooney’s personal affairs to his club affairs, once again.
However, Ferguson has now revealed that Wayne Rooney only decided to stay because of the Manchester United fans. He revealed that Rooney even received death threats from his fans, as they were obviously not happy with the way things were running. Therefore,
it made Rooney realize the extent of damage brought about by his actions. Hence, without moving along with his original plan of leaving the club, Rooney decided to stay in order to make his fans happy.
Sir Alex Ferguson took advantage of the opportunity and blamed the clubs who have been trying to make things worse for Manchester United. The United’s manager said that the mind of his striker was being polluted by other clubs, especially his archrivals
Manchester City, which was the most likely destination of Rooney in case he left his club.
Wayne Rooney is still injured and he has yet to face his fans after this whole drama unfolded. However, he is also under a lot of ice because of his lack of form at the moment. Although, he has been able to win a hefty contract, but he still has to prove
himself worthy of such a wage. United’s fans would not go easy on him as well, because now they would demand a lot from their player. In short, Wayne Rooney has some very tough days coming in the next month or so, as he has to win the hearts of his fans all
over again.
