Rooney's Injury moves England's World Cup Odds to 10 to 1
Tuesday night Wayne Rooney gave quite an injury fright after limping out of Manchester United’s Champion League. Apparently he was over thrown by Bayern Munich, an unfortunate mishap. Now, everyone is concerned what will the outcome be of this terrible incident.
Apparently Wayne Rooney was seen rolling his right ankle in the final minute of the match and went down in anguish as he was seen being carried off the ground. The injury immediately sent panic through the football betting markets - but things would get a lot worse were he to be ruled out of this summer's finals in South Africa.
Previously Rooney has known to have twice broken metatarsals in his career, there were also qualms he had broken his foot. However it was later attested by Sir Alex Ferguson that the injury was not terribly serious.
"There isn't an England fan anywhere who underestimates the importance of Wayne Rooney to England's World Cup hopes, and that reality has been magnified by this latest injury scare," said Coral's Simon Clare.
"We are currently offering 11/2 on England winning the World Cup but we would offer 10/1 or bigger on a 'Rooney-less' England lifting the trophy."
Most definitely England's World Cup odds will double if Wayne Rooney were to be ruled out of the tournament as predicted by Coral. Coral also believe Rooney's fitness will have a significant bearing on the amount of patriotic pre-tournament betting on England.
Even the Premier League prices were among the others to move slightly after Rooney’s injury.
While the Blues' title price is also in, Chelsea have been cut to beat Manchester United in this Saturday's showdown,
William Hill go 7/4 (from 21/10) about a Chelsea win at Old Trafford, with United out from 7/5 to 13/8. Sky Bet moved United from 11/8 to 6/4 to win the game.
In the title race betting, totesport were one of several firms to trim Chelsea's odds. They are now as short as 5/4, with United at evens.
Bookmakers initially moved England out from 5/1 to 6/1 for the World Cup, with Sharpe stating: "If there is the slightest chance of Rooney being absent it definitely affects England's chances in the minds of punters."
Lets see where this takes England and what are the odds and chances in the next games to follow.
