  1. Hello...Root canals are seldom done under sedation unless the patient is a mental case or has some extraordinary health issues that need to be dealt with in a manner that keeps the patient totally still during the procedure....What you need to know is that you will do just fine....have you ever heard the quote.."Painless Dentistry"?? Well, it's true...Today's equipment , materials and procedures does indeed make dental procedures 98% painless...In some case a very "slight" case of discomfort is felt...but I can tell you that a hang nail can produce more pain than most dental procedures.....You will do fine..Good luck and I wish you well.

  2. the root canal filling is no worse than any other filling

the only difference is it takes longer.

the dentist needs to remove all the pulpy stuff and nerves from the shell of the tooth

then they make sure it is all clean and dry and fill the big hole

    be brave, you'll do fine

  3. A root canal procedure is basically a filling placed in the canal that once held the pulp or nerve of the tooth.

There is nothing painful with a root canal procedure, unless you have a severe infection that has caused the need for one.  If that were the case, you would be placed on an antibiotic treatment prior to the root canal, this is to allow the anesthetic to filter through the tissue creating a profound numbness before proceeding with the procedure.  If an infection is present it will block the anesthesia from working, this can cause a painful procedure.  In such cases as these, the root canal procedure is preformed as an emergency.

I think you will be fine and your dentist will make sure that you are perfectly numb before he starts working on you.  Good luck!

  4. Getting a Root Canal isn't anymore painful then having a feeling.  The only thing that should hurt if at all would be the shot.  I would suggest your mom read Root Canal cover-up before agreeing to a root canal

  5. You want to be put under ? Sedation you mean ? It is not necessary. Dont panic.. the prick of an injection is just as much as a pin pokes your skin. After that your tooth wil be numb and you wont know a thing. Once the numbness is gone you still wont have pain as the procedure Root Canal itself means killing tooth and a dead tooth doesnt trouble. Just relax. Take care !

  6. I just had a root canal yesterday and it didn't hurt at all! It still doesn't. You don't need to be put under, that's way too much. They will numb you and you won't feel pain. Make sure you have a GOOD dentist though or endontist (root canal specialists).

  7. Just chill-Nerves are there,Nerves will be gone.After the shot,all is cool.

Have had thousands of stitches(3 layers each time-meaning twice)so just grit for the first needle, and smile for the rest.

  8. I just had a root canal the other day.  It wasn't nearly as bad as I had expected.  If you can, eat before you go to the dentist's office because you might not be able to eat for a few hours after the root canal.  I also took some ibuprofen before I went.  They numb you pretty good and then they give you pain pills for later.  I really only had a soreness/pain for the rest of the day.
