Question:

Root canal or filling?

One of my small teeth in the front have a cavity.

I do not feel any pain in that tooth.

However I don't know whether I will get a root canal or a filling done there.

What do you think?

Do root canals hurt?

  1. Filling only.

    You dont need Root Canal

  2. If you have a cavity with no pain, it can mean the nerve of the tooth has died off, meaning you will need a root canal if you would like to keep your tooth. I've worked in a dentist's office though and have never seen a patient in great discomfort during a root canal. The biggest pain is probably just keeping your mouth open for about an hour. I've seen patients fall asleep during a root canal, they are really no big deal.

  3. Just because you don't have pain doesn't mean that you don't need a root canal. So that answer is really up to your Sr to explain to you which you need. if the cavity is deep enough, (which you might not be able to see visually), then a root canal is necessary, however if it is small enough then you could just get a filling. Root canals usually hurt when people wait too long before they take care of a problem. Horror stories about root canals are usually due to that reason, not just the procedure.
