Question:

Root canal vs getting tooth pulled

by  |  earlier

I have a tooth that they said needs a root canal (despite it not hurting as much as they say it should be). Well I was just sitting here not doing anything and ran my tongue over the tooth and part of the side broke off. Sooo I was wondering:

1. Does getting your tooth pulled hurt as much as/more than getting a root canal?

2. Is it possible to pull a tooth that'd otherwise need a root canal?

I kinda cant afford a root canal and the tooth is all the way in the back so I really don't care if it's missing :/ Half of it is gone now anyways -_-

  1. Alright, getting a root canal is so much more better then getting your tooth pulled.  If you can get a root canal and crown, you can save your tooth.  If you have it pulled (and it is the back tooth) you can't have a fake tooth put in unless you get a implant and those are VERY costly.  If you truly want to save you tooth i would get the root canal and a crown placed.  I understand if you don't have the money.  I see patients everyday who don't have the money.  There are different financial things you can do.  Get a medical credit card like CARE CREDIT.  or use a reg. credit card.  You don't want to lose a tooth if you don't have too.  Do what you can do to keep them.  Having a tooth pulled can be painful for the next few days while it has to heal.

    Hope this helps you!

  2. I have had both. having a tooth pulled is faster and my jaw was sore a couple of days. the root canal is more costly and took 3 visits. they have to clean the roots out, pack them and then put a cap. BUT  you keep the tooth and it is easier chewing.

  3. If i were you i'd go ahead and get the tooth pulled if you cannot afford a root canal.

I'm sure they could give you a fake tooth although I'm not sure.

You should probably do some research before you make your

    final decision.

    good luck!

  4. Tooth extraction approximately $75

    Extraction 1 visit

    Extraction no pain

    Root canal Approximately $1500

    Root Canal several visits.

Root Canal NO pain  (the only pain is in your wallet)

    Good luck on your decision.
