Question:

Root canal with temporary filling, help please?

I just had it part of a root canal done about an hour ago and surprisingly I forgot to ask the dentist some questions.

1. Can I eat regular food?

2. Can I brush that side of my mouth?

3. My next appointment to finish the procedure is in 2 weeks...is that too long?

I'm just terrified that something bad is going to happen, what can I do to make sure it doesn't break or anything?

  1. 1. nothing 'sticky' like taffy or gum or caramel - other than that, most food should be fine

    2. yeah, but make sure to brush softly until a day or two passes, and don't pick at the filling (despite any urges)

    3. nope, when i had a root canal done and my dentist put in a temp filling, my appt wasn't until a week and a half later, so i don't think a few days will make a difference.

don't worry to much about it, and just remember to stay away from certain foods and not to pick at it..

  2. Brushing and flossing should be fine, unless your dentist did a poor job. Don't try to eat anything that is too hard till you get your permanent crown that tooth is very weak and chomping on something hard could prove to be more than it can bear. Almost any normal food though from breakfast cereal to burgers, Artichokes to zucchini. Avoid sugar candies anything with sprinkles on it if you can't crush into it with your fingers wait till you get your crown. If you break the tooth as it is you may well lose it. Since you have already pumped a lot of money into it that would be very bad
