Ok my dad planted a rose bush right before he died. which was 7 yrs ago. I want to take a part of it and plant it in my yard. But I'm not sure how to do it, when or anything.. Can someone help me? I'm not sure what the term is for this process, But any advice would be great. By the way I live in Mississippi.

  1. you can propagate rosebushes but you do need to do your research.

Read the link below and if possible, take a picture of the rosebush to your local gardening centre and ask the "expert" there, as well.

    good luck.

  2. In the fall, while the bush still has a flower on it; just do the following. Take the stem that has the flower on it, and go down the stem until you come to to another branch  that has 5 leaves, continue down the stem that has the flower on it for a couple inches and cut the stem at a angle. Take your finger, or pencil and poke a hole in the ground and stick the stem that was the one flower and  5 leaves and stick it into the ground. Push the dirt tight around it, and cover it with a glass jar and leave until spring.

I've ten new bushes with this method.

  3. you can take a cutting and get a special root starting formula at nurseries specially for roses.

  4. We did the same thing-took a clipping from my dad's rosebush and stuck it in a raw potatoe so it could root and then transplanted it potato and allYou could also graft it by cutting it at a slant and cutting another rose bush at a slant and tape it to it but keep it in the potatoe so it doesn't lose moisture.

  5. This website has a wealth of information about rooting roses:  http://members.fortunecity.com/cnetter/r...

    Good luck!
