I just got my first horse today and bought him awesome matching things. I got him a rope halter because he needs to learn his manners. The lead came with it and its just a simple rope. You know the shiny kind not the actual rope kind. It doesnt have the bull clip to attach it to the halter. How do you tie the not of the end of the lead to the halter?

Thanks and here is a website to show the exact halter go to this link:

  1. It looks like they are just looped together, how though, I'm not sure.

Personally though, I think you should get some sort of clip for the lead rope. Asides for the fact it'll make it much less complicated, it also makes it easier for you to get the rope off in a hurry. All rope does look very cool, but a clip means you can just quickly unclip him if he is fed up and you won't have to fuss with trying to undo the loop system.

Clips aren't too expensive, and it will be worth it.

Good luck with the halter and lead rope, and also with teaching him his manners. :)

  2. Ummm... that hatler and rope isnt attached it's all one long rope and it's been knotted in a certian way to fit as a halter a well as a lead... just to let you know

  3. You stick the end of the rope throught the loop on the halter then turn it around the loop. Then you stick it back down through the loop (the opposite way from how you stuck it in). Then you slide/tighten the lead line. Its kinda hard to explain.

I would get a clip though. Those halters and leads scare me half to death. I can just see a horse getting caught and not being able to get free with no break away pieces. The lead line would also behard to get undone in an emergency.

I would suggest a stud chain over one of these halters if your horse lacks proper manners.

  4. I don't really know, try a reef knot, or a figure of 8 knot.

  5. I would change to a halter with at least a clip on it. You want to be able to get the lead off in a hurry if need be. If this is your first horse and you are unfamiliar with handling them, a clip would help. First, it provides more weight on the halter so when you pull to stop them or correct them, there is more control and abruptness. Second, if they do get stuck or you get caught in a bad position, with a clip lead its a quick release.

  6. In the picture it looks like they have just looped the lead round the loop of the halter and tucked it back down so that the knot at the end of the lead holds the whole deal tight.  I didn't like the "no snap" thing, so I added a snap to my lead and clip it to the halter loop.
