Cape Cobras' all-rounder, Rory Kleinveldt, has failed a drug test as confirmed by the South African anti-doping organization, the Institute of Drug-Free Sport on Thursday March 15, 2012.
The 29-year-old has been dropped from the Cobras' squad for the rest of MiWay T20 challenge after he tested positive for a banned substance. The South African Cricketers' Association (SACA) declined to reveal the substance and added that they had withdrawn
the player as a "precaution" until the investigation is fully completed.
"Kleinveldt has returned a positive sample in a routine anti-doping test. The test reveals the presence of a specified substance in Kleinveldt's test sample. SACA will be reviewing the medical evidence as soon as it is available and will only be in a position
to make further comment thereafter," told SACA in press release.
The right-handed all-rounder has also played two Twenty20 Internationals, with his last game coming against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in 2010. He was then dropped from the national team due to his unimpressive performances before being called up for the home series against
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 earlier in the year.
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) specified regarding the substance, which according to them is “susceptible to a credible, non-doping explanation”. The guilty player, however, may request a B sample test if he is not satisfied with the results of the
initial doping test reports.
The coach of Cobras, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richard-Alexander-Pybus-c84844, said that Kleinveldt would be provided all the support he needs but expressed his disappointment for losing the player’s services for rest of the campaign. The Cobras currently sit 4th on the points table and
needs to win all their remaining matches in order to qualify for the final.
WADA added that though the player may use such medicines unintentionally which carry banned substance however; furhter claimed that there remains no leniency for any breach in ethical rules of the game.
Kleinveldt became the second player from his country, who has been tested positive for a banned substance, in the past year. Earlier, it was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dolphins-c781 batsman, who was found guilty and was handed three-month ban after he was found
to be using a banned diet pill.
The penalty for a positive dope test ranges from a warning to a two-year ban.
