Rory MacDonald vs. B.J. Penn might happen at UFC on Fox 5 – UFC News
Rory MacDonald vs. B.J. Penn was scheduled for UFC 152 but later it was postponed. Earlier today, Rory MacDonald’s manager Lex McMahon revealed that the postponed showdown might headline UFC on Fox 5 on December 8 this year.
“I've been in communication with B.J.'s camp and UFC,” revealed McMahon in his recent interview. “The idea of fighting on the FOX card has been part of these discussions. Our position is that Rory will fight B.J. as soon as he is healed and had a reasonable
period to train.”
“The possibility of headlining the FOX card in December is attractive as it provides a great platform to showcase the return of B.J. Penn, one of our sport's icons, as well as to introduce the mainstream fans to one of brightest young stars in the form of
Rory. At this juncture nothing has been agreed upon, but needless to say Rory and his team would welcome the opportunity to fight B.J. Penn on FOX as the main event.”
On the other hand, Nate Quarry has already spoken of the possibility of the bout happening at UFC on Fox 5, yesterday on Thursday’s episode of ‘MMA Uncensored Live.’
It should be noted here that the showdown between MacDonald and Penn is among the most awaited clashes of 2012. Penn, who was disappointed with the event not taking place, previously suggested fighting in October in Rio de Janeiro. On the other hand, MacDonald
came up with November 17 as a possible date for the bout to take place in Montreal.
Now, McMahon revealed that since the Rio card of UFC was already full, Penn’s request was declined. Similarly, he added that they did not go for the Montreal card believing the UFC would not have booked them as the card already had two major fights, which
Georges St-Pierre vs. Carlos Condit and Johny Hendricks vs. Martin Kampmann. Therefore, the duo is now looking forward to December 8 as their possible showdown.
UFC on Fox 5 is yet have to a venue officially. According to McMahon, it should be announced soon.
