Rory McIlroy, Alexander Noren emerge clubhouse leaders at Maybank Malaysian Open – Asian Tour
Rory McIlroy has joined overnight leader Alexander Noren to lead the clubhouse of the Maybank Malaysian Open 2011.
The event, which is being held at the par-72 Kuala Lumpur Golf Course, saw many top ranked players improve their position on the leader board.
McIlroy played fantastic golf during the second round. He managed to repeat his past performance in Masters by carding a superb round of eight-under par, 64 for the day which helped him move his name up on the leader board.
Rory dominated the course throughout the round by playing some promising shots. There were eight circles which indicated eight birdies on his blemish-free score card. His birdies came on holes 3, 5, 8, 10, 12, 13, 16 and 17. He was simply amazing on the back-nine.
The 21-year-old, who recently suffered a great loss on the final day at Masters, is eager to win this four-day event. Now with another superb under-par round, it appears he has forgotten the final day memory of Masters and is confident of winning this championship.
The putter of Rory has been hot since the past couple of days. It was again a day where he took full advantage of his beautiful approach shots and was holding his putts.
As for the overnight leader Noren, he still maintains his lead and has been joined by McIlroy. He managed to post a composed round of three-under par, 69. This was enough for him to keep his name on top of the leader board. Noren had four birdies and only had a single drop shot for the day. His only bogey came at the tough par-3, 15th where his iron was too much as it went through the green. This was his only bogey on his score card.
The Swede Noren still looked in fine form on the second day. His putting was smooth on the soft greens and looked comfortable playing in the conditions.
Rory carded the lowest round of the day to become the joint leader of the clubhouse at the Maybank Malaysian Open.
