Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods close behind - BMW Championship
It seems that fortunes are with Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods. The healthy competition between the world number one and world number three is what golf needed for a long time.
Vijay Singh might be leading the BMW Championship after two rounds but the focus is on the ever growing rivalry between Woods and McIlroy.
Vijay Singh shot a magnificent 6-under 66 at the Crooked Stick Golf Club to lead the BMW Championship, ahead of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. Vijay is chasing his first title on the PGA Tour in four years.
Tiger Woods is one shot behind the leader after shooting a flawless round of 67. Tiger’s round included five birdies and no bogeys but he was not playing the way he was in first round.
It was a sloppy and sluggish display by Tiger and Rory both. However, still they managed to hang on. Woods, by comparison, had a steadier round, where as Rory’s was pretty wayward.
The Irishman shot a sluggish round of 68 which included six birdies, four bogeys and an eagle. Nevertheless, it was very entertaining to watch McIlroy throughout the round.
American Ryan Moore is also tied at T2 with McIlroy and Woods, after shooting two consecutive rounds of 66.
"You come to a Pete Dye golf course and you don't expect to see 13 under par leading after two days,'' Woods said.
All was not well for Tiger until the last four holes, where he birdied thrice to be in contention for the final two days.
"It's a lot of pressure because you know on a golf course like this you have to go out there and shoot something in the high 60s''.
For one reason, it was tough for Tiger Woods. He was not playing as freely as he would have liked to but then all is well that ends well.
"Today was a struggle,'' he said."I fought hard to shoot a number today, and the way I was hitting it, I figured I could get to double digits under par would be a good accomplishment. I got a couple more out of it''.
McIlroy had a very unprofessional round but he is still in contention for the title. "It's nice to be able to give myself a chance to win each week,'' McIlroy said.
