Rory McIlroy admits he was nervous to meet Tiger Woods for the first time - Golf News
Rory McIlroy has admitted that his first ever meeting with Tiger Woods was fraught with nervousness, saying he felt even more flustered than he did during his meeting with Barak Obama.
McIlory grew up admiring Woods as his idol and he always wanted to become the world’s best player like Woods did when he was young.
The rising star turned 23 recently and has already taken the world’s number one spot three times in his career.
Following the successes he earned in a short span of his professional career, he met numerous big personalities, including Woods and President Obama.
He said that he has never been this nervous before, but meeting Woods for the first time in his life confused him.
According to him, his meeting with Obama was far better in terms of nervousness, as he kept his cool.
“I think the first time I met Tiger I was a little star struck,” McIlroy said according to Eye on Golf, noting that he was 15 years old when the meeting took place. “I watched him on TV winning majors by 15 and 12 and doing things that no one else could”.
“It’s funny, I was talking about this last night. I was more nervous meeting Tiger than I was meeting Barack Obama,” he added.
The comments made by McIlory portray how successful and dominant Woods was at the peak of his career.
During Woods's golden era, it would always seem that the highest rank a player could get in the Official World Golf Rankings was second, as Woods had reserved the number one spot.
Each and every player wanted to be like him and women wanted to be with him.
However, the gloomy period came when he became involved with some women and his marriage was irrevocably broken.
As a result, he started losing grip on his game and went out of the golfing scene for two years, prior to making a desperate comeback with a couple of wins.
He is now struggling to get back in form so that he can rule the world of golf once again.
