Rory McIlroy and Luke Donald eyeing victory at BMW PGA Championship
Rory McIlroy and Luke Donald stand on the same ground at Wentworth Golf Club and their mission is to lift the trophy of BMW PGA Championship on their way back home. The European duo shared their goals during the press conference
held in Surrey, England.
The 22-year-old Northern Irishman, McIlroy spoke to the press about his bid and the irony that took place at the Masters. He said that he had gotten over the huge blow and was ready to lift the trophy at a course he cherished.
He later narrated the tale of his loss at the Augusta National, where the Masters took place. He said that he led the field until he did not realize that he was closing-up on victory. Upon finding out that he was close to winning,
tension descended upon him and hence he lost his cool resulting in him losing out.
“It definitely hurt me a little bit. It's tough, but I'm a big boy - I'll get over it,” said McIlroy.
Similar sentiments were shared by Luke Donald, who lost the Volvo World Match Play Championship after being beaten by Ian Poulter in the final round. The world number three was shocked after he found out that Poulter was 2-up after
17 holes and had already won. The player surrendered and left the course in state of shock that was evident from the expressions on his face.
Recapturing the moments of the final round, Donald said, “I felt I should have won and I didn't. I was down Sunday night and Monday thinking about it. Last week was a big chance. I had the tournament kind of in my hands and I let
it go on 17. I hit a horrible drive there, made seven and that was that. It does get a little bit frustrating when you have opportunities and you can't quite finish them off.”
The Englishman shared a toast with the press and said that he had left the recent loss behind him and was ready to tee off in the BMW PGA Championship, where he will get an opportunity to rise to the position of world number one.
