Rory McIlroy and Luke Donald will battle for the top position at the BMW PGA Championship
Rory McIlroy and Luke Donald will, once again, fight against each other at the BMW PGA Championship, for the world number-one ranking position.
The European Tour event is going to be staged from May 24 to 27, 2012, at the the Wentworth Club in Surrey, England.
McIlroy, a 23-year-old Northern Irishman is currently holding the world dominating position and is gearing up for the upcoming mega event.
Similarly, the world number-two ranked Donald is also in the field of the tournament. He is aiming high to regain the number one spot, at the Official World Golf Rankings.
In the current season, both the professionals have defeated each other in different tournaments. Firstly, it was the World Golf Championships - Accenture Match Play Championship, when McIlroy was close to the world number one position, but failed due to
a defeat in the event.
Hunter Mahan defeated the Northern Irish professional, stopping him from reaching the leading position.
Then it was the PGA Tour event, the Honda Classic when second-time McIlroy came close to defeating Donald. McIlroy amazingly won the title and grabbed the top position.
Donald was highly disappointed for losing the top most position. He improved his performance and delivered his best at the Transitions Championship.
He won the title amazingly and retook the leading ranking position from McIlroy. For taking back the glory, he was happy, however he was also aware of the fact that the battle would go on for a while.
Similarly, Donald’s mediocre performance at the Masters Tournament and RBC Heritage dragged his ratings down. He lost the top ranking position again and McIlroy edged past him once again.
"I think the guys will have a lot better scoring opportunities," Ernie Els said. "It is a par 72, six-under won last year. I think 14 or 16-under is going to be the winning score and hopefully we will have a lot more smiling faces from the players this year".
Now, all the spectators, their fans and other players are excited to see both rivals again at one place. They will be competing and will also be making the tournament more appealing and exciting.
