Coetzee stumbled on a bogey on the last hole of the day, finishing for an aggregate of nine-under, 135.
Overnight leader, Bello is still to complete his front nine and has carded two birdies and dropped a shot at par-four, 8th so far.
He will be hoping to perform ahead of the current leader and has a strong chance of doing that considering his first round score of nine-under. He is trailing McIlroy by three shots for the moment.
Dane Thomas Bjorn is currently tied for the eighth place along with Scott Jamieson, and Tano Goya.
The grizzled veteran of the tour will be hoping to perform better than his first round of six-under, 66 to further consolidate his position before heading in the weekend. He has just made the turn, carding three birdies in all.
World number three, Lee Westwood, has also made the turn, carding two birdies on the front nine.
He pulled in a round of three-under, 69 on the opening day and will be hoping to perform better the second day. Struggling with a neck and elbow injury which he accosted in the second round of Abu Dhabi title, Westwood is not ready to take a break from mainstream
golf.
He said before the Dubai Desert Classic event, “This is obviously a place I like coming and playing. I love this golf course. I think it's a good test and you get what you deserve around it. It's usually in great condition and I don't think this year is
any exception. It's a nice place to come to play early in the season. I came and practised here three weeks ago to get ready for Abu Dhabi and Qatar, so it’s the last of a four-week trip. It’s good to be back here and be competitive”.
Meanwhile, defending champion Alvaro Quiros, who clinched the title with a glistening final round last year, posted another lacklustre round of two-under, 70 today.
He carded a single birdie on the front and dropped two shots on the back before pulling in a surprise eagle at the last hole.
Abu Dhabi champion Robert Rock has apparently struck back with a blistering round of five-under, 67 on the second day against a sloppy opening round of one-over, 73.
The Englishman is hoping to break into the top-50 on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) in order to confirm his place for the Masters.
