Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods will contend against each other at the Jinsha Lake match-play event
The 14-time major champion Tiger Woods and will face the recent winner of the PGA Championship and the world number one Rory McIlroy in a one-day Jinsha Lake match-play contest in October, 2012. The contest will be held at the Jinsha Lake Golf Club, in Zhengzhou.
The idea of the event is unique in a way that it will include only the abovementioned players and both the contenders will try to take each other down.
The showcase event does not offer any prize money to the winner and will be held after one month of their participation in the Ryder Cup.
McIlroy is very pleased with the concept and happy to come face to face with one of the greatest players the sport has ever produced.
"It's an exciting concept and it will be a lot of fun going head to head with Tiger," McIlroy said. "The Duel at Jinsha Lake will be the first time myself and Tiger have come together to play a 'one-off' match like this, so I'm really looking forward to
it".
"I've always looked up to him as a player. What he's achieved in the game is remarkable," the 23-year-old said.
Both the players have been enjoying great forms in the current PGA Tour season. McIlroy won the Honda Classic early this year and surged to the top of the Official World Golf Rankings.
A few days after, Luke Donald reclaimed the top spot and McIlroy went out of form, as he started missing cuts after the Wells Fargo Championship.
Yet, he did not lose hope and continued working hard to get his form back. Last week, he stunned his opponents with an amazing record-setting eight-stroke victory at Kiawah Island.
At the same time, Woods also ended his two-year winless streak on the PGA Tour after he recorded a victory in the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Later, he managed to register another two victories and became the only player in 2012 to win three events on the PGA Tour so far.
Therefore, a tough competition is expected from both the players and the Chinese people will have one of the most interesting events of the year held on their soil.
