Rory McIlroy commits to participate in the Irish Open
Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland has committed to participate in the in the 2013 edition of the Irish Open. The tournament is slated to start from June 27, 2013.

The Carton House in Co Kildare will host the event, while featuring some of the prominent names on the European Tour.

According to the world number one, Irish fans’ support makes the tournament one of the best in the world.
While making his commitment to participate in the event, he said that the support that he receives in the Irish Open makes him attracted towards the event each year. He also expressed his wish to add a number of Irish Open title to his resume, in the
years to come.
No one can deny the fact that the confirmation made by the Northern Irishman will provide a huge boost to the tournament, as he enjoyed a great run of form last season and is currently the hottest sensation in the world of golf.
During the 2012 golf season, he won five tournaments collectively on the PGA Tour and the European Tour. Moreover, he secured the money list titles on both the tours, and became the second player, after Luke Donald, in the history of the game to achieve
that feat.
He also became the PGA Tour Player of the Year and the European Tour Golfer of the Year, along with adding Vardon Trophy and the Byron Nelson Award to his shelf.
The golf commentators believe that the tournament organizers can now attract a huge crowd to buy tournament tickets and watch their favourite player playing live on the course.
Talking to the European Tour’s official website, the world number one said that the Irish Open is one of the historical events, with a number of big names associated with it. Therefore, it will be an honour for him to record a victory in the event.
“The history of the Irish Open is very special too, with such a great list of champions from Nick Faldo to Seve (Ballesteros), Bernhard Langer, Sergio Garcia and Padraig Harrington. So many European greats have won that tournament and I think that’s
what makes it so special,” he said.
“The fans are incredible. Obviously the support I get back home is unbelievable but the support the Irish fans give in general is great. They are very knowledgeable and I think Portrush this year, with its record attendances, was just incredible, seeing
so many people come out to watch us play,” he added.
