Rory McIlroy counting on home advantage at the Irish Open
The stage is set for the Irish Open 2012.The event starts from the 28th of June 2012. It is said to be the biggest event in the history of the European Tour.
The event is going to take place at the Royal Portrush Golf Club. The course is a difficult one and tremendous amount of experience is required for playing here.
One of the players ready to embrace home advantage is the world number 2, Rory McIlroy. This is the first time the Northern Irishman has bid to win the cup this week.
Up till now, the-23-year-old has given four appearances in his National Open. Out of these four appearances, twice he has finished in the top-ten.
McIlroy is going to be a home favourite in the tournament. He is going to have all the support from the crowd. In recent years, this has not proven useful for McIlroy, as he has not been able to use the home ground advantage to his benefit.
The Irish Professional golfer, himself admitted in his recent interview that, in the recent years, he was not able to cope up with the pressures of being the home favourite.
McIlroy said, “To be honest the last couple of years, I didn’t really enjoy the tag of the home favourite”.
Later on, McIlroy said that earlier, he was not comfortable being the home favourite but this year, in the Irish Open, he would like things to be a bit different.
He is of the view that he will not choke in front of the home crowd, rather, he will embrace it.
McIlroy seems very confident about his game and is not taking extra pressure before the Irish Open.
“I’ve put ten days of really good work in,” said the world number 2 while talking about his game. “My game feels good. It actually felt pretty good at the US Open”.
“I felt like it was starting to come around. In a way it couldn’t be a better time to come back here and play Portrush. It brings back so many good memories, and you can feed off that, and that gives you some confidence”.
Rory McIlroy is one of the top contenders in this year’s Irish Open and is going to be in top form for the tournament.
