Rory McIlroy excited about the Olympics
WGC-Bridgestone Invitational is one of the most prestigious events on the PGA Tour. The venue for this prestigious event is the Firestone Country Club, Akron, Ohio. The event is going to start on the 2nd of August and is going to end on the 5th
of August.
The best in the world of golf are going to fight for victory on this stage. Players are going to give it their best and will be leaving nothing to chance.
Some of the players arrived at Firestone CC a bit earlier so that they could get familiar with the course and do some extra practice.
Rory McIlroy was one of the players who were in no hurry in getting to the Akron for practice. McIlroy stayed in London to enjoy the feel of the Olympics. Before flying to Akron for WGC-Bridgestone Invitational he visited the Olympic stadium.
In an interview, he said that it was a new sort of a feeling and it was simply amazing. He said, “I went into the athletes’ village one day, and it was the first time that I’d been close to the Olympics in any way. It’s completely different than anything
I’ve ever been at before. Just the scale of it, the size of it”.
Golf is going to be reinstated as an Olympic sport in the Olympics of 2016 which are going to be held in Rio
de Janeiro. It stopped being an Olympic sport after the games in 1904 at St. Louis.
Rory McIlroy is very excited about golf being in the Olympics and is looking forward to it. This way golf is going to get more fame and is going to be better recognized by all the countries.
He said, “Golf as a sport will be recognized in more countries and definitely participation levels will go up after that. I think for golf it’s great that it’s in the Olympics”.
Olympics would be an opportunity for young players, like Rory McIlroy and others, to reach new heights. They would be more recognized and would definitely have a bigger stage for them to perform on.
