Rory McIlroy eyes another victory at the Hong Kong Golf Club
Rory McIlroy, who clinched The Race to Dubai title last week with a third-place finish in the Barclays Singapore Open, is ready to continue his great form at this week’s UBS Hong Kong Open.
The UBS Hong Kong Open will start from November 15 to 18 at Hong Kong Golf Club, featuring a number of big players from the European Tour and the Asian Tour.
UBS Hong Kong Open has reeled in some prominent names including the likes of Ryder Cup hero Paul Lawrie, the four-time PGA Tour winner Matt Kuchar, the Asian Tour Order of Merit leader Thaworn Wiratchant and major champions, Padraig Harrington, and
YE Yang.
On the back of a decent run of form, Rory McIlroy is certainly the strongest contender this week because of his outstanding form this year.
The world number one has recorded a total of four US PGA Tour wins this season, and won the money list titles on both the European Tour and the PGA Tour.
He also won the PGA of America Player of the Year award, and the Vardon Trophy. Furthermore, he was nominated for the PGA Tour’s Player of the Year award, which will be announced next month.
Therefore, he will be a man to beat this week, when he enters the field of the Hong Kong Golf Club, in a bid to defend his title that he won by defeating, Grégory Havret, with a two-stroke margin last year.
The Northern Irishman is regarded as one of the most successful players in the history of the tournament, having won the event last year and recorded second-place finishes in 2008 and 2009.
Moreover, he also finished sixth on the leaderboard in the 2010 edition of the tournament.
“Hong Kong has always been a place I’ve enjoyed coming to,” said McIlroy. “It’s always got a great buzz, a great atmosphere, and there is just something about Fanling and the Hong Kong Golf Club that I really enjoy”.
“This week will be extra special after wrapping up the Race to Dubai last week in Singapore, and I can’t wait to tee up as the defending champion this week,” added McIlroy, who won the PGA Championship in August with a record eight-shot margin.
