Rory McIlroy faces wrath of media after criticising the venue of The Open Championship
Rory McIlroy has been flooded with criticism for his blunt admission that said, “I'm not a fan of golf tournaments where the outcome is predicted so much by the weather. It's not my sort of golf.”
The 22-year-old golfer, who is known for giving rude comments to his fellow golfers, has once again pressed his views about the link-styled courses of Scotland, which has arose a wave of hostility against the player.
McIlroy has become the target of criticism by the Scottish press, who say that the golfer should have been respectful about the heritage of golf.
The Northern Irish player, who won the US Open in June, missed the cut at the Open Championship after he recorded a round of 73 in the second round. This forced McIlroy to go all out against the course and the poor weather conditions prevalent at the event
site. The player held nothing back as he expressed his disliking of the course.
When asked to comment on his defeat, the Northern Irishman said that he was extremely disappointed with his finish, but he was looking forward for the next tournament. However, when the reporters threw a question regarding the weather at him, the player
let it all out.
“My game is suited basically for every golf course and most conditions, but I don't enjoy playing in these conditions, really. I'd rather play when it's 80 degrees and sunny and there's not much wind,” said McIlroy in response to that question.
In an answer to the notion that he should have adjusted his game-style with the requirement of the course, the player said that he did not find it necessary to change his game for one tournament in the year. This left the press awestruck, who thought that
the young golfer needed to be polite when it came to the etiquettes of golf.
McIlroy will tee off at Atlanta Athletic Club, where the US PGA Championship will be held next month. The course is a regular Park-styled American course, which does not face tough weather conditions like the ones prevalent at the Royal St George’s Golf
Club.
