Rory McIlroy falters at the Irish Open, Wozniacki’s presence failed to do the trick!
The Irish Open brought plenty of hope for the most unfortunate golfer of this season, Rory McIlroy, as he is facing the most turbulent time of his entire career.
In the first round of the Irish Open, McIlroy failed to regain his lost stature in the world of golf and gave an average play at the prestigious Open.
In his press conference, he seemed confident that he will fetch his form back as his hometown will add to his confidence.
“I felt like it was starting to come around. In a way it couldn’t be a better time to come back here and play Portrush. It brings back so many good memories, and you can feed off that, and that gives you some confidence,” said the world number 2.
He was fine and seemed pretty much ready.
However, he fell apart, yet again. McIlroy had a bad first round at Portrush and his misery is not letting him breathe. He had a few good strokes in the beginning but absolutely faded after a few minutes.
The world number 2 was disappointed and clearly wanted to end the day with a better score, especially after the support he saw as he entered Portrush.
“There was incredible support out there and it would have been nicer to post a better score for them, hopefully, I can go out early in the morning and pull the shots back. If it’s like this it’s possible to shoot a low number around there,” said McIlroy.
His girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki sat right beside McIlroy and was seen chatting with the world number 2 off and on. He seemed confident initially but crash landed his jet of bad swings in the end.
Things are not looking good for Rory and his number 2 spot is in deep trouble if he misses the cut at the Irish Open.
His lack of focus remains the key issue with his current form. With the presence of Wozniacki at the course, it was thought that McIlroy would give a better show this time. However, he failed to comeback at his hometown, which is indeed, very sad.
